Abstract

Beatrix Heintze has been researching and writing about the history of Angola and the Bantu peoples for over 40 years. Her publications, including books, articles, chapters and editions, total around one hundred titles. However, the historian is not as well known among Brazilian researchers as she should be, perhaps in part because many of her texts have not been translated into Portuguese, several of which remain in German. Beatrix Heintze developed her career at the prestigious Frobenius Institute (Frankfurt), retiring in 2004, although she continues to be active as a researcher. The following interview aims to contribute to expanding knowledge among Portuguese-speaking researchers (particularly those from Brazil) about the academic career and work of one of the most important researchers of Angolan history from the 16th to the 19th century.
