- Abstract
- I read with great interest the review article by Golovaty et al.[1] calling to innovate and revitalize current approaches to lifestyle change for preventing type 2 diabetes. For this purpose, they identified six key priority areas, one of which was detecting high-risk individuals, such as those with prediabetes, who are most likely to benefit from intensive lifestyle interventions. I would like to point out that prediabetes is not a singular entity but a heterogenous group characterized by different phenotypes based on the pathophysiology [2, 3], risk of progression to type 2 diabetes [4] and clusters of risk factors [5]. Consequently, the “one-size-fits-all” lifestyle modification approach may not apply to different prediabetes phenotypes.
